This is a post from Colleen, our amazing admin-officer. I love that everyone at Veta is passionate about sharing God’s love… As you will read below, it’s more than just a job!
Everyone who is a disciple of Christ is called to mission (cf Matt 28:18-20.)
We are all called to reach out with God’s love to the people around us; our friends, family and the people who we do life with – even the person who serves us at the supermarket. But sometimes we are called to mission fields further away.
I have just returned from a mission trip to the country of Nicaragua, where I, along with over 2500 other missionaries from 200 churches in 33 countries, planted the seed of God’s word into fertile soil.
There were medical teams, clean water team and teams of general missionaries. We went to the state of Estelli in the mountains of Nicaragua where we provided medical aid, clean water, hope and healing.
Children and young people who arrived sad, lonely and burdened walked away with the Good News of Jesus, with joy and heads held high. On the final day, tens of thousands gathered for worship in the state of Estelli alone. This was replicated in every state of Nicaragua at the same time.
Many people were healed that evening, and many more held their hands high as a sign of giving their lives to Jesus.
I was reminded of Isaiah 66:8: “Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.”
So why does the Admin officer in her mid-50s go on a mission trip to Nicaragua? At Veta we don’t just deliver authentic Christian learning, but we believe in authentic Christian living. You can’t teach and deliver what you don’t know and experience.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) calls this ‘Industry Experience’! To me it is the joy and privilege of serving God and sharing the amazing love of Jesus in whatever way I can.
God continues to grow me, to shape me and prepare my heart for his work. I know that God is calling you to something also – whatever age and stage of life you are in. If God has a place for an admin officer in her mid-fifties reaching out to the people of Nicaragua, then surely he has something for you too!!!
